Learn the names of vehicles in English with our educational game app on your Nokia smart phone:
This game shows you photos of vehicles and says the name in English of one of them. You have to select the corresponding photo, either by touching the photo on the touch screen of your phone or by keying in the number beside the photo using your phone's key pad.
At first it is easy, because the game only shows you a small number of vehicles to choose from. As your grasp of the names of vehicles in English improves, the game gradually becomes more difficult as the game adds, one by one, photos of vehicles that it knows you do not know.
If you are not sure which photo to choose, touch the photo or key the number beside it. The game will then expand that photo to make it bigger. When you are ready to continue, touch the big photo or press any key and then have another go at choosing the right photo.
If you choose the right photo first time, the game expands the photo and shows the name of the vehicle, in English, at the top of your phone's screen and plays a jingle.
On a touch screen phone: swipe the photo to make the phone say the name of the vehicle in the photo again. Tap the touch screen to continue the game.
You can do the same thing using the key pad: press the 1 key to make the phone say the name of the vehicle again. Press the* key to continue the game.
If you took more than one go to choose the right photo, the game shows the correct photo at the top of the screen and one of the other photos that you viewed at the bottom so that you can see the differences.
On a touch screen phone: swipe either photo to make the phone say the name of the vehicle in the photo again. Tap the touch screen to continue the game.
You can do the same thing using the key pad: press the 1 key to make the phone say the name of the vehicle in the upper photo again. Press the 4 key to make the phone say the name of the vehicle in the lower photo.
Press the* key to continue the game.
To ensure that you remember what you have learned, the game retests you on vehicles that you learned earlier.
You can stop playing the game at any time and then continue later from where you left off. The game remembers how much progress you have made and does not restart at the beginning unless you completely reinstall the game.
The game displays how many vehicles you know in the ticker tape and plays a special jingle every time you get 10 right in a row. The progress bar at the bottom of the screen shows you your progress through the game. The progress bar changes colour as you reach new levels of expertise in recognizing these vehicles.
You can also find out how many vehicles you know and your current level of

About
The human mind is very good at linking visual images with the sounds of spoken words. After playing this game, your ability to recognize the words describing vehicles in spoken English will be dramatically improved. When you see a vehicle, the name of the vehicle will pop into your mind, in English, and you will able be to say it immediately, without first having to recognize the vehicle in your primary language, translate this word into English and then read the translated word out loud. Consequently, you will soon find that you can speak English more quickly and fluently than ever before.
You can download a free copy of this game which will teach you 6 vehicles. The paid version uses the same technique to teach you 50 vehicles. Both games can be found on Nokia's web site.
The vehicles were photographed and narrated by Ruth S. Croome. The vehicle names were validated on: Wikipedia.
Here are all our other educational games. They will help you extend your command of the English language by teaching you about common objects you will encounter in every day life.
